Sumitomo Excel Mera 71 herbicide is a non-selective, post-emergent herbicide. It offers a strong systemic mode of action as it works by inhibiting a plant enzyme, which leads to the disruption of essential amino acids, causing it to die completely from roots to tips. The Mera 71 herbicide is effective against a broad-spectrum of weeds, making it a very versatile weed remedy. This herbicide offers quick results while being relatively safe to use.
Key Features and Benefits of Mera 71 Herbicide:
Quick Results: Mera 71 herbicide uses an ammonium salt of glyphosate, which is rapidly absorbed when applied, providing quick results.
Effective Formula: The Mera 71 herbicide is translocated throughout the weed, including the roots, ensuring the weeds do not regrow.
Broad-Spectrum: Sumitomo Excel Mera 71 herbicide is effective against a wide range of weeds like grassy, sedges, and broadleaf weeds.
Rainfast Application: Mera 71 herbicide cannot be washed away easily by rain after a certain time of application.
Safe to Use: This herbicide binds to the particles and is broken down by microbial activity, leaving behind no harmful residue.
Excel Mera 71 Uses — Target Weeds and Application Areas:
Excel Mera 71 covers all weed types in registered and directed-spray application areas:
Annual Grassy Weeds: Echinochloa spp., Eleusine indica, Digitaria spp., Paspalum spp., Setaria spp.
Perennial Grassy Weeds: Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda / Doob Grass), Imperata cylindrica (Thatch Grass), Panicum repens
Sedges: Cyperus rotundus (Nutsedge / Motha), Cyperus spp.
Broadleaf Weeds: Acalypha indica, Ageratum conyzoides, Cichorium intybus, Digera arvensis, fern-like weeds
Registered Use Areas: Tea (registered) and Non-cropped areas; directed spray in Coffee, Rubber, Coconut, Mango, and Grapes inter-rows
Excel Mera 71 Dose — Recommended Dose:
The Mera 71 Dosage Per Litre is 6.5 gm per litre of water — equivalent to 100 gm per 15 litres of water or 1 kg per acre in directed foliar application.
Use Area | Target Weeds | Dose Per Acre | Per 15L Water | Timing |
Tea (Registered) | Annual and Perennial Weeds | 1 kg | 100 gm | When weeds are at 6–8 inch growth stage, actively growing |
Non-Cropped Areas | All Weed Types | 1 kg | 100 gm | When weeds are at 6–8 inch growth stage |
Plantation Inter-Rows (Directed) | Annual, Perennial, Sedges | 1 kg | 100 gm | Directed spray — use hood to avoid crop foliage contact |
How To Use Sumitomo Excel Mera 71 Herbicide:
Measure the required dose of Mera 71 herbicide as per the dose table above — 100 gm per 15 litres of water is the standard mixing ratio.
Pour the measured granules into the sprayer tank partially filled with clean water and stir until fully dissolved.
Fill the tank with the remaining clean water and mix well to form a uniform spray solution.
Fit a flat fan nozzle with a spray hood for directed inter-row applications in plantations — always shield the spray from the crop canopy.
Spray directly onto weed foliage when weeds are at the 6–8 inch height and actively growing — this is when EPSPS inhibition has the fastest and most complete effect.
Ensure full and uniform weed leaf coverage — Mera 71 must contact the green leaf surface to be absorbed and translocated.
Do not spray during strong winds, foggy weather, or when rain is expected within 4 hours of application.
Rinse the sprayer thoroughly with clean water after use — Glyphosate residues in the sprayer can damage desirable crops sprayed later.
Best Time to Apply:
Apply Mera 71 herbicide in the early morning or late evening on actively growing weeds. Target the 6–8 inch weed growth stage — weeds at this stage absorb the ammonium salt formulation of Mera 71 most efficiently and die the fastest.
Frequency of Application and Re-Entry Period:
Frequency of Application: One well-timed application at the 6–8 inch weed stage is generally sufficient per weed flush. Repeat as needed for each new flush of weed emergence across the crop season.
Re-Entry Period: Do not enter treated areas for at least 24 hours after spraying. Allow the spray solution to dry and settle fully before wading through treated plantation inter-rows.
Tank-Mix Compatibility: Mera 71 herbicide is generally used as a standalone product. If combining with other products, always perform a jar test and check compatibility before mixing.
Important Notes:
Mera 71 is non-selective — it will kill any green plant it contacts, including crop plants. Always use a spray hood for directed applications in plantation inter-rows.
Do not spray on waterlogged, drought-stressed, or water-covered weeds — actively growing weeds absorb Mera 71 most efficiently.
Always rinse the sprayer thoroughly after use — Glyphosate residues damage sensitive crops in subsequent spray sessions.
Safety Precautions and Handling:
Wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask before handling or spraying Mera 71 herbicide.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during mixing or application.
Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes — rinse immediately with clean water for 15 minutes if contact occurs.
Do not allow spray drift onto crop plants, neighbouring fields, or water bodies; Mera 71 will damage all green vegetation it contacts.
Keep children, pets, and livestock away from treated areas for at least 24 hours.
Wash all exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after every spray session.
Triple rinse empty containers, puncture, and dispose of per local waste guidelines.
