UPL Shenzi is a broad-spectrum insecticide that offers both systemic and contact modes of action against pests like bollworms, spodoptera, fruit borers, etc. It works by activating insect ryanodine receptors, causing a continuous release of calcium into muscle cells, leading to paralysis, cessation of feeding, and eventual death of the pest. The Shenzi insecticide offers quick pest relief with complete and uniform crop coverage in a single application.
Key Features and Benefits of UPL Shenzi:
Effective Formula: UPL Shenzi insecticide has no cross-resistance to other generally used insecticides for effective protection.
Quick Action: The Shenzi insecticide stops larvae from feeding on plant tissue within minutes of ingestion, protecting crops from further damage.
Complete Coverage: This insecticide offers strong systemic and translaminar movement, covering the entire crop in a single application.
Long Lasting: A single application of UPL Shenzi insecticide provides prolonged protection, reducing the need for frequent application.
Rainfast Performance: UPL Shenzi insecticide is absorbed quickly into the crops and cannot be washed away easily by the rain.
UPL Shenzi Uses — What Does It Control?
UPL Shenzi uses target Lepidopteran pest species across all registered crops:
Borers: Yellow Stem Borer (Paddy), Early Shoot Borer (Sugarcane), Shoot and Fruit Borer (Brinjal, Okra), Fruit Borer (Tomato, Chilli)
Bollworms: American Bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera), Pink Bollworm — Cotton
Caterpillars: Tobacco Caterpillar (Spodoptera litura), Armyworms — Pulses, Soybean, Vegetables
Registered Crops: Sugarcane, Paddy (Rice), Tomato, Chilli, Brinjal, Okra, Cotton, Pulses, Soybean
UPL Shenzi Dose — Recommended Dose:
The UPL Shenzi dose per litre is 0.4 ml per litre of water — equivalent to 60 ml per acre in 150 litres of water and 6 ml per 15L pump across all registered crops.
Crop | Target Pest | Dose Per Acre | Per 15L Pump | PHI |
Paddy / Rice | Yellow Stem Borer, Leaf Folder | 60 ml | 6 ml | 14 days |
Sugarcane | Early Shoot Borer | 60–75 ml | 6–7.5 ml | 30 days |
Cotton | Bollworms, Spodoptera | 60 ml | 6 ml | 14 days |
Tomato | Fruit Borer | 60 ml | 6 ml | 3 days |
Chilli | Fruit Borer | 60 ml | 6 ml | 3 days |
Brinjal / Okra | Shoot and Fruit Borer | 60 ml | 6 ml | 3 days |
Pulses / Soybean | Pod Borer, Tobacco Caterpillar | 60 ml | 6 ml | 7–14 days |
How To Use UPL Shenzi Insecticide:
Measure the required dose of UPL Shenzi as per the crop-wise dose table above.
Pre-mix in a small amount of clean water and stir well before adding to the sprayer tank.
Fill the tank with the remaining clean water and agitate with mechanical or hydraulic means — do not use air agitation. Mix thoroughly before spraying.
Use a hollow cone or flat fan nozzle for uniform coverage — ensure spray reaches the underside of leaves and the inner canopy where Lepidopteran larvae are most active.
Apply at the early larval stage — at the first sign of egg hatching or first-instar larval feeding for the best feeding cessation and residual protection.
Do not allow the spray mix to sit overnight — if the spray solution stands, re-agitate thoroughly before use.
Spray during early morning or late evening — Shenzi insecticide should not be applied to crops in bloom as this can affect bees and pollinators.
Rinse all sprayer equipment thoroughly with clean water after every use.
Best Time to Apply:
Apply UPL Shenzi in the early morning or late evening. Apply at the first sign of egg hatching or early larval infestation for the strongest control — Shenzi insecticide enters larvae primarily through ingestion of treated foliage, so early application before larvae move into protected feeding sites gives the most complete kill.
Frequency of Application and Re-Entry Period:
Frequency of Application: Apply at the first sign of pest infestation. UPL Shenzi provides 21 days of residual control — do not apply more than 2 applications per season in the same crop. Always rotate with products from different IRAC groups after each application window to prevent resistance.
Re-Entry Period: Do not enter treated fields for at least 12 hours after spraying without proper protective gear.
Tank-Mix Compatibility: Shenzi insecticide is compatible with most fungicides. Avoid mixing with strongly alkaline products. Do not use BS1000 or Activator adjuvants as these may cause crop phytotoxicity. Always perform a jar test before mixing with unfamiliar inputs.
Safety Precautions and Handling:
Wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask before handling or spraying UPL Shenzi.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during mixing or application.
Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes — rinse immediately with clean water for 15 minutes if contact occurs.
Do not apply to crops in bloom — Shenzi insecticide can affect bees and other beneficial pollinators if applied during active foraging.
Keep children, pets, and livestock away from treated fields for at least 12 hours.
Wash all exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after every spray session.
Triple rinse empty containers, puncture, and dispose of per local waste guidelines.
