Descriptions
Chitosan (Timer) Due to its antibacterial and antifungal properties, chitosan is successfully used in plant protection, as an elicitor, growth promoter, enhancer of secondary metabolites production, and in soil correction. Like the Natca plant growth regulator, it enhances crop yield and quality by stimulating hormonal and enzymatic activities in plants.
Plant defense Activator:
Chitosan is a natural plant defense activator derived from the deacetylation of chitin, a compound readily available from shellfish waste from food processing. The chitosan molecule stimulates plant immunity against pathogens.
Elicitor:
Chitosan is used as an elicitor for inducing phytoalexin accumulation in plant tissue culture. Phytoalexins act as toxins to the attacking organism.
Seed coating:
One of the most important bioactivities of chitosan on plants is the stimulation of seed germination.
Chitosan coating alters the permeability of the seed plasma membrane, increasing not only the concentrations of sugars and proline but also enzyme activities.
Germination rates increase significantly, and seedlings germinate more quickly, better, and vigorously.
Plants growth promoter:
Chitosan application is strongly effective on the growth and yield of some crops such as potato, cabbage, soybean, upland rice, tomato, lettuce, and radish to name but a few. It also has a significant effect on the growth rates of roots, shoots, and flowering.
Bio Nematicide:
Chitosan application in the soil is effective in killing nematodes. It acts by inducing the proliferation of chitinolytic microorganisms, destroying the cuticles of nematodes and their eggs.
