- Imidacloprid acts as an antagonist by binding to postsynaptic nicotinic receptors in the insect central nervous system.
- It is broad spectrum insecticide having contact and stomach action.
- It is compatible with most of the commonly used pesticides except those of alkaline materials.
- It is a foliar insecticide with acaricidal properties for use in action.
- It is synergistic in activity especially in situations where some resistance to organophosphate and or synthetic pyrethroid, insects have developed.
- It has excellent translaminar effect and readily absorbed in plant cells thus not affected by rainfall.
Mode of action:
Imidacloprid is a systemic insecticide with translaminar activity and with contact and stomach action. Readily taken up by the plant and further distributed acropetally, with good root-systemic action.
Applications
It is a systemic insecticide used for control of sucking insects, including rice, leaf and plant hoppers, aphids, thrips and whiteflies.
It is effective against soil insects, termites and some species of biting insects, such as rice water weevil and Colorado beetle.
It has no effect on nematodes and spider mites.
It is used as a seed dressing, as soil treatment and as foliar treatment in different crops e.g. rice, cotton, cereals, maize, sugar beet, potatoes, vegetables, citrus fruit, pome fruit and stone fruit.
