FMC Ferterra is a granular, soil-applied insecticide that offers a strong systemic mode of action. It works by disrupting muscle function in target pests, stopping feeding quickly, and causing paralysis and the eventual death of the pest. The FMC Ferterra insecticide offers effective protection in a safe-to-use formula, as it can be used for Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices, providing various economical and environmental benefits.
Key Features and Benefits of Ferterra Insecticide:
Complete Coverage: FMC Ferterra is absorbed through plant roots and translocated throughout the plant for even coverage.
Unique Formula: The Ferterra insecticide has no cross-resistance to any existing insecticide, providing effective results upon each application.
Quick Results: This insecticide, when applied, immediately stops pest feeding, resulting in rapid pest relief for the best results.
Long-Lasting: A single application of FMC Ferterra insecticide offers prolonged protection, reducing the number of applications needed.
Safe to Use: The FMC Ferterra insecticide is suitable for IPM practices as it does not harm beneficial organisms and has a low chemical impact.
Ferterra Insecticide Uses — What Does It Control?
FMC Ferterra insecticide uses are focused on Lepidopteran boring pests across two registered crops:
Sugarcane: Early Shoot Borer (Chilo infuscatellus), Top Borer (Scirpophaga excerptalis)
Registered Crops: Paddy (Rice) and Sugarcane

PHI
Paddy / Rice
Yellow Stem Borer, Leaf Folder, Gall Midge
4 kg per acre
10 kg per hectare
Broadcast on standing water at 2–5 cm depth

Sugarcane
Early Shoot Borer, Top Borer
6–8 kg per acre
15–20 kg per hectare
Soil surface broadcast at planting or ratoon stage

For Paddy: Apply FMC Ferterra when the field has 2–5 cm of standing water — broadcast the granules uniformly by hand across the entire field. Maintain standing water for 3–5 days after application for best root uptake.
For Sugarcane: Broadcast FMC Ferterra insecticide uniformly on the soil surface between rows at planting or ratoon stage and incorporate lightly with soil moisture or irrigation.
How To Use FMC Ferterra Insecticide:
Measure the required dose of FMC Ferterra as per the crop and dose table above.
For Paddy, ensure the field has 2–5 cm of standing water before broadcasting the granules.
Broadcast the Ferterra insecticide granules uniformly by hand across the entire rice field. Divide the total dose into manageable portions and walk through the field systematically for even coverage.
Maintain the standing water level for at least 3–5 days after application to allow the granules to dissolve and the active ingredient to move into the root zone.
Do not drain the field or allow the water level to drop below 2 cm within the first 5 days of FMC Ferterra application.
For Sugarcane, broadcast the required dose of Ferterra insecticide between crop rows and lightly mix into the soil surface with a rake or through normal irrigation.
Apply during the active vegetative stage; for Paddy, apply at the tillering stage when stem borers are most likely to attack young tillers.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after application.
Best Time to Apply:
Apply FMC Ferterra at the tillering stage in Paddy (15–20 days after transplanting or 25–30 days after direct seeding) when Yellow Stem Borer activity is highest. For Sugarcane, apply at or shortly after planting and again at the ratoon stage for Early Shoot Borer prevention.
Frequency of Application and Re-Entry Period:
Frequency of Application: One well-timed application of FMC Ferterra insecticide per season is generally sufficient for complete borer management in both Paddy and Sugarcane. The 30–45 day residual activity covers the most critical borer-susceptible growth windows.
Re-Entry Period: Allow field water to settle after broadcasting FMC Ferterra granules before wading through the paddy field. No strict re-entry restriction applies given the low toxicity profile — basic hygiene precautions are sufficient.
Compatibility: FMC Ferterra insecticide is a standalone granular product applied directly to the soil — it is not mixed or tank-combined with any other product.
Safety Precautions and Handling:
Wear gloves and a face mask when handling and broadcasting FMC Ferterra granules — avoid inhaling dust during application.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during or immediately after application.
Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water after every application session.
Keep FMC Ferterra insecticide away from water bodies, fish ponds, and irrigation channels — avoid direct contamination of aquatic environments.
Keep away from children and farm animals at all times.
Dispose of empty containers per local agricultural waste guidelines.
Storage Instructions:
Store FMC Ferterra in its original sealed packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture.
Keep tightly sealed after use to prevent moisture absorption, which can cause granule clumping.
Keep away from food, animal feed, and seeds.
Store out of reach of children and farm animals.
Storage Temperature: Below 35°C.
Shelf Life: 2 years from the date of manufacture.
