UPL Amicus is a selective, systemic, and pre-emergent herbicide containing Metolachlor 50% EC that works by inhibiting certain biosynthesis and disrupting specific enzyme pathways in emerging weeds, stopping cell division and elongation, ensuring the weed's death. The Amicus herbicide lasts longer and provides long-lasting protection, making it cost-effective as well.
Key Features and Benefits of Amicus Herbicide:
Safe For Crops: UPL Amicus herbicide only targets germinating weeds and does not harm the crops, ensuring crop safety.
Long-Lasting: Metolachlor 50% EC lasts for a longer period of time, reducing the need for frequent applications.
Pre-Emergent Application: This herbicide is applied before the weed emerges, providing better yields as crops grow without competition.
Broad-Spectrum: UPL Amicus herbicide can be used against a wide range of weeds like annual grasses, sedges, and some broadleaf weeds.
High Compatibility: This Metolachlor 50% EC herbicide can be mixed with other commonly used herbicides for better results and more coverage.
Amicus Herbicide Uses — Target Weeds and Crops:
Amicus Herbicide Uses cover annual grasses, sedges, and some broadleaf weeds across all registered crops:
Annual Grassy Weeds: Echinochloa colona (Jungle Rice), Digitaria sanguinalis (Crabgrass), Setaria spp. (Foxtail Grass), Eleusine indica (Goosegrass), Dactyloctenium aegyptium (Crowfoot Grass)
Sedges: Cyperus rotundus (Nutsedge / Motha), Cyperus iria, Cyperus difformis
Broadleaf Weeds: Amaranthus spp. (Pigweed), Portulaca oleracea (Purslane), Euphorbia spp. (Spurge)
Registered Crops: Corn (Maize), Soybean, Groundnut, Cotton, Sugarcane
UPL Amicus Dose — Recommended Dose:
The Amicus Herbicide Dose Per Litre equivalent is 4–6 ml per litre of water — equivalent to 800–1200 ml per acre in 200 litres of water.
Crop | Target Weeds | Dose Per Acre | Per 15L Pump | Timing |
Corn / Maize | Annual Grasses and Sedges | 800–1000 ml | 60–75 ml | Pre-emergence — apply at sowing or within 3 days |
Soybean | Annual Grasses and Sedges | 800–1000 ml | 60–75 ml | Pre-emergence — apply at sowing or within 3 days |
Groundnut | Annual Grasses and Sedges | 800–1000 ml | 60–75 ml | Pre-emergence — apply immediately after sowing |
Sugarcane | Annual Grasses and Sedges | 1000–1200 ml | 75–90 ml | Pre-emergence — apply after planting before weed emergence |
Cotton | Annual Grasses and Sedges | 1000–1200 ml | 75–90 ml | Pre-emergence — apply at sowing or within 3 days |
How To Use UPL Amicus Herbicide:
Check the label instructions and dosage properly before measuring metolachlor 50% EC.
Measure the required dose of Amicus herbicide as per the crop-wise dose table above.
Add the measured quantity to a sprayer tank half-filled with clean water and mix well before topping up — the EC formulation forms a stable emulsion readily.
Fill with the remaining clean water and agitate well to form a uniform spray solution before application.
Apply as a uniform broadcast soil spray over the entire field surface immediately at sowing or within 3 days of sowing — before any weed seeds have germinated and before any weed seedlings emerge above the soil surface.
Adequate soil moisture is essential at the time of UPL Amicus application — apply before anticipated rainfall or first post-sowing irrigation to activate metolachlor 50% EC into the topsoil for best herbicidal activity.
Do not disturb the soil surface after spraying Amicus herbicide — tillage or cultivation breaks the chemical barrier and significantly reduces residual efficacy.
Wash hands with soap immediately after using the product.
Best Time to Apply:
Apply UPL Amicus in the early morning or late evening on a calm day. The best application window is at sowing time — 0 to 3 days after sowing — to ensure Amicus herbicide is in place before the first weed seeds begin germinating and before any soil disturbance breaks the surface herbicide layer.
Frequency of Application and Re-Entry Period:
Frequency of Application: One pre-emergent application per season is generally sufficient for season-long weed suppression in all registered crops. The 6–8 week soil residual activity of metolachlor 50% EC covers the entire critical early weed establishment window. If late weed flushes appear after the residual period, a post-emergent herbicide from a different HRAC group may be applied as a follow-up.
Re-Entry Period: Do not enter sprayed fields for at least 12 hours after application. Avoid walking through the treated field surface before the spray has dried to prevent disturbing the chemical barrier.
Tank-Mix Compatibility: Amicus herbicide is compatible with most other herbicides. Always perform a jar test before mixing metolachlor 50% EC with unfamiliar products.
Important Notes:
UPL Amicus is a pre-emergent herbicide — it has no effective activity against weeds that have already emerged above the soil surface. Apply before weed emergence only.
Do not disturb the topsoil after application — mechanical tillage breaks the active herbicide layer.
Metolachlor 50% EC requires soil moisture for activation — apply before expected rainfall or the first post-sowing irrigation.
Safety Precautions and Handling:
Check the label instructions and dosage properly before handling Amicus herbicide.
Do not smoke, eat, or drink when applying the product.
Wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask when measuring and applying UPL Amicus.
Avoid direct skin and eye contact — rinse immediately with clean water if contact occurs.
Wash hands with soap immediately after using metolachlor 50% EC.
Keep UPL Amicus out of reach of children and pets.
UPL Amicus herbicide is for agricultural purposes only.
Triple rinse empty containers, puncture, and dispose of per local waste guidelines.
