Tata Sedna is a broad-spectrum insecticide that is effective against various mites through a strong contact mode of action. It works by disrupting their cellular energy production. This insecticide acts as an excellent population controller as it stops eggs from hatching and the nymphs from growing to adults. The Sedna insecticide is also compatible with other commonly used agro-inputs, making it highly versatile.
Key Features and Benefits of Sedna Insecticide:
Population Control: Tata Sedna provides ovicidal action against mite eggs, breaking the mite population cycle at the earliest life stage.
Resistance Management: Tata Sedna insecticide has a unique mode of action, making it suitable against pests that have developed resistance.
Quick Knockdown: The Sedna insecticide provides quick action against nymphs and adults mainly through contact action, for rapid pest relief.
Broad-Spectrum: This insecticide is suitable against a broad-spectrum of mites, like yellow mites, red spider mites, eriophyid mites, and more.
High Compatibility: Tata Sedna insecticide can be mixed with other commonly used insecticides, which helps provide better results.
Sedna Insecticide Uses — Target Mites and Crops:
Sedna Insecticide Uses cover all major mite species across all three registered crops:
Yellow Mite: Polyphagotarsonemus latus — Chilli
Eriophyid Mite (Coconut Mite): Aceria guerreronis — Coconut (spray on young buttons and developing buds)
Red Spider Mite: Oligonychus coffeae, Tetranychus urticae — Tea, Chilli
Pink Mite: Acaphylla theae — Tea
Purple Mite: Calacarus carinatus — Tea
Registered Crops: Chilli, Tea, Coconut
Tata Sedna Dose — Recommended Dose:
The Sedna Insecticide Dose Per Litre is 1–1.5 ml per litre of water for Chilli — with crop-specific dose rates for Tea and Coconut as given below.
Crop | Target Mite | Dose Per Acre | Per Litre | Notes | PHI |
Chilli | Yellow Mite, Eriophyid Mite | 150–225 ml | 1–1.5 ml | Uniform coverage of all leaf surfaces | 3 days |
Tea | Red Spider Mite, Pink Mite, Purple Mite | 120–240 ml | As per label | Directed spray onto leaf surface and canopy | As per label |
Coconut | Eriophyid Mite (Coconut Mite) | 10 ml per tree + 1% Urea solution | As per label | Spray on young buttons and developing buds only | As per label |
How To Use Tata Sedna Acaricide:
Measure the required dose of Sedna insecticide as per the crop-wise table above.
Add the measured quantity to a sprayer tank half-filled with clean water — Tata Sedna is an SC formulation; shake the bottle well before measuring.
Fill the tank with the remaining clean water and mix well to form a uniform suspension before spraying.
Use a hollow cone nozzle for thorough coverage — ensure spray reaches the underside of leaves where mites concentrate in the highest numbers.
For Chilli Yellow Mite and Eriophyid Mite, apply at the first sign of leaf curling, distortion, or bronzing — early application gives the fastest mite knockdown.
For Tea, spray Sedna insecticide uniformly across the entire tea bush canopy, covering all leaf surfaces.
For Coconut Eriophyid Mite, direct Tata Sedna spray specifically onto young button nuts and developing flower buds where mite populations are highest.
Always spray during early morning or late evening for best contact absorption.
Best Time to Apply:
Apply Tata Sedna in the early morning or late evening. For Chilli Yellow Mite, apply at the first visible sign of leaf curling and distortion. For Tea mites, apply when pest populations reach the economic threshold level. For Coconut Eriophyid Mite, apply at the button stage before significant mite colony build-up.
Frequency of Application and Re-Entry Period:
Frequency of Application: Apply at the first sign of mite infestation. Tata Sedna provides 10–14 days of residual mite control per application — repeat as needed, up to 2–3 times per season. Always rotate Sedna insecticide with acaricides from different IRAC groups after 2 consecutive applications to prevent resistance development in mite populations.
Re-Entry Period: Do not enter treated fields for at least 12 hours after spraying without proper protective gear. For Tea, observe the PHI strictly before plucking.
Tank-Mix Compatibility: Sedna insecticide is compatible with most insecticides and fungicides. Always perform a jar test before mixing Tata Sedna with unfamiliar products. Note that Fenpyroximate water solubility is slightly dependent on pH — avoid strongly alkaline tank solutions.
Safety Precautions and Handling:
Wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask before handling or spraying Sedna insecticide.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during mixing or application.
Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes — rinse immediately with clean water for 15 minutes if contact occurs.
Keep children, pets, and livestock away from treated fields for at least 12 hours.
Wash all exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after every spray session.
Triple rinse empty containers, puncture, and dispose of per local waste guidelines.
