Sumi Nara is a non-selective, systemic and post-emergent herbicide that contains Glyphosate 54% SL, which is effective against a wide range of weeds like Echinochloa spp., Digitaria spp., Cynodon dactylon, and many others. It offers a systemic mode of action that works by penetrating the foliage and translocating to roots, which works by blocking EPSPS enzyme, leading to the weed's death. The Sumi Nara herbicide offers a strong formula for wide-scale clearing across various uses, making it highly versatile.
Key Features and Benefits of Sumi Nara Herbicide:
Strong Formula: Sumi Nara herbicide offers a strong herbicide with 54% of the chemical formula for effective results.
Complete Coverage: The Nara herbicide is absorbed quickly and covers the entire weed, including roots, rhizomes, and underground bulbs.
Broad-Spectrum: Glyphosate 54% SL is effective against a wide range of weeds, as it is non-selective, destroying any weed that comes in contact.
Rainfast Properties: After absorption, this Glyphosate 54% SL formula cannot be washed away easily by the rain for effective results.
No Residue: Sumi Nara herbicide binds to the soil particles upon ground contact and is broken down easily by microbial activity.
Versatile Uses: This Glyphosate 54% SL herbicide can be used for tea plantations, non-cropped areas, roadsides, field borders, etc.
Sumi Nara Herbicide Uses — Target Weeds and Application Areas:
Sumi Nara herbicide uses cover all weed types across registered and directed-spray application areas:
Annual Grassy Weeds: Echinochloa spp., Digitaria spp., Eleusine indica, Dactyloctenium aegyptium
Perennial Grassy Weeds: Cynodon dactylon (Bermuda/Doob Grass), Imperata cylindrica (Thatch Grass), Saccharum spontaneum (Wild Sugarcane)
Sedges: Cyperus rotundus (Nut Grass / Motha), Cyperus spp.
Broadleaf Weeds: Amaranthus spp., Parthenium hysterophorus (Congress Grass), Tridax procumbens, Ageratum conyzoides
Registered Use Areas: Tea Plantations (registered); directed spray in non-crop areas, roadsides, bunds, irrigation channels; pre-sowing in Paddy and Cotton
Sumi Nara Dose — Recommended Dose:
The Glyphosate 54% SL dose per litre is 7–15 ml per litre of water — adjusted for weed type, size, and application area. Due to the higher concentration of Glyphosate 54% SL, the dose per litre is lower than 41% SL formulations for equivalent active ingredient delivery.
Use Area | Dose Per Litre | Per Acre | Notes |
Tea — Annual Weeds | 7–10 ml | 700 ml–1 litre | Directed spray between rows |
Tea — Perennial Weeds | 10–15 ml | 1.0–1.5 litres | Higher dose for established perennials |
Non-Crop / Roadsides | 10–15 ml | 1.0–1.5 litres | Broadcast or directed — actively growing weeds |
Paddy / Cotton (Pre-Sowing) | 7–10 ml | 700 ml–1 litre | Apply 7–10 days before sowing |
How To Use Sumi Nara herbicide:
Measure the required dose of Sumi Nara as per the weed type and application area in the dose table above.
Add the measured quantity to a sprayer tank half-filled with clean water and mix well before topping up.
Fill with the remaining clean water and agitate to form a uniform solution.
Use a flat fan nozzle fitted with a spray hood for directed inter-row applications — always protect desirable crop foliage.
Direct the spray onto green weed foliage at the 6–8 inch growth stage when weeds are actively growing.
Allow at least 4–6 hours of dry weather after application — Glyphosate 54% SL needs this window for adequate leaf absorption before it becomes rain-fast.
Do not allow Sumi Nara herbicide spray to contact green crop plants — it is non-selective and will kill all green vegetation it contacts.
Rinse the sprayer thoroughly with clean water after every use.
Best Time to Apply:
Apply Sumi Nara in the early morning or late evening on actively growing weeds at the 6–8 inch stage. For Tea inter-rows, apply when a new flush of weed growth is actively developing for the fastest and most complete kill.
Frequency of Application and Re-Entry Period:
Frequency of Application: Apply as needed for each flush of weed emergence. One well-timed application per weed flush is generally sufficient. Repeat as needed across the season for newly emerging flushes.
Re-Entry Period: Do not enter treated areas for at least 24 hours after spraying. Allow the spray to dry and settle fully before re-entry.
Tank-Mix Compatibility: Sumi Nara is generally used as a standalone product. Avoid mixing with hard or alkaline water — calcium and magnesium ions reduce Glyphosate 54% SL efficacy. Always perform a jar test before mixing with any other herbicide.
Important Notes:
Sumi Nara is restricted in the state of Kerala.
Sumi Nara is non-selective — it will kill any green plant it contacts, including crop plants. Always use a spray hood for inter-row applications.
Do not spray on waterlogged, stressed, or dormant weeds — Glyphosate 54% SL requires actively growing weeds for effective absorption.
Always rinse the sprayer thoroughly after use before applying any crop spray.
Safety Precautions and Handling:
Wear gloves, goggles, and a face mask before handling or spraying Sumi Nara herbicide.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during mixing or application.
Avoid direct contact with skin and eyes — rinse immediately with clean water for 15 minutes if contact occurs.
Do not allow spray drift onto crop plants, neighbouring fields, or water bodies.
Keep children, pets, and livestock away from treated areas for at least 24 hours.
Wash all exposed skin thoroughly with soap and water after every spray session.
Triple rinse empty containers, puncture, and dispose of per local waste guidelines.
