How to Assemble
Pick a flat, shaded spot under a tree or shed, since strong sun dries the vermi bed too fast.
Clear the ground of stones and sharp stubble, then spread a thin layer of dry sand or straw for base protection.
Unfold the vermicompost bed flat, stand up the four side walls, and tie the corner ropes to nearby poles to keep them straight.
Fill the bottom with a 4 to 6 inch layer of dry leaves, sugarcane trash, or coconut husk for drainage.
Add a 6 to 8 inch layer of semi-dry cow dung, sprinkle water, and rest for 5 to 7 days to cool down.
Release the earthworms on top, cover with a wet jute sack, and water lightly every 2 to 3 days.
Care and Maintenance
Sprinkle water on the vermi bed every 2 to 3 days to keep moisture steady, but never flood it.
Cover the vermi bed with a wet jute sack at all times, since direct sun harms the earthworms.
Empty the HDPE bed fully after each batch, brush off stuck compost, and rinse with plain water.
Check the side drain outlet weekly and clear any blockage, since trapped water turns the compost smelly.
Store the folded bed in a clean, dry shed during the off-season, raised off the floor on a wooden plank.
Inspect the seams and corners once a month, and patch small tears right away with HDPE repair tape.
Keep the area free of ants, termites, and rats, since these pests can chew the fabric.
